Thunderbirds Specsavers, an interesting Advert.

If you were asked who Virgil and The Hood are I am sure most of you would become excited and nostalgic thinking about the popular comics and more popular TV series ‘Thunderbird.’ Virgil, the pilot of Thunderbird 2 and the Hood, that recurring villain, they were iconic characters loved by all.

Wondering why I am talking about them? Well the reason for that is Specsavers Opticians’ fantastic advert promoting their specs and lens. Unlike standard sunglasses such as the Adidas T-Sight L, all of specsavers opticians products are prescription based eyewear, that help your vision whilst looking good at the same time. The advert completely captures this notion with its excellent idea and beautiful presentation.

As the advert begins the theme music of Thunderbirds starts playing in the background. And Virgil is seen flying with his jet backpack. Within seconds The Hood appears from nowhere with his jet backpack and starts following the pilot.

Virgil looks at the Hood and presses the special red button that pulls him out of the underground areas at a faster speed. As he accelerates so does the villain. They pass through tunnels and an interesting chase ensues.

As they come closer to ground the lenses of Virgil’s specs keep becoming darker and darker. And as for the outside, there the light is too much and unbearable. But our hero is smiling for he is wearing Specsavers’ glasses.

But the Hood is not that lucky. He is without his Specsavers’. So the obvious result, he can’t bear the light and crashes into the surroundings. The voiceover proclaims, ‘He should have gone to Specsavers, Virgil.’ He sure should have.

One thing is very obvious about this advert visible on YouTube; it thrives on great presentation and has got immense recall value. And the fact that it clearly represents the product to be sold that too with a no-nonsense approach, it scores heavily for the Specsavers.
